A Community of Overcomers - Day 1 of 5

Day 1: Overcoming the Fear of Friction

Five-day devotional based on the message, "A Community of Overcomers" by Director of Student Ministry Justin Ruszkiewicz on June 15, 2025. Click here to watch the video.

Devotional
As we navigate our relationships, we often encounter friction—a discomfort many of us prefer to avoid. It's easier to remain in the shallow end, engaging in safe, superficial interactions, but doing so robs us of the depth and richness that God intends for our lives. In Proverbs 27:5-6, Solomon reminds us that sincere wounds from a friend are more valuable than empty flattery. True friendship challenges us, pushing us toward growth and humility. Let's embrace these opportunities to confront and be confronted in love, allowing God to refine us through the friction.

Bible Verse
“An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.” —Proverbs 27:5-6, NLT

Sermon Quote
“A fake friend flatters to destroy you, but a true friend wounds to heal you.”

Reflection Question
Who in your life speaks truth into your heart, even when it's difficult to hear, and how do you respond to their sincerity?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to embrace the friction that comes with true friendship. Give me the courage to speak truth in love and the humility to receive it. May I grow in grace and wisdom through these relationships. Amen.
